Warszawa City Vital Records Project Details by Cyrkul/District
The Indexing of the Warszawa City Vital records was processed in several phases.
Jewish Record Indexing-Poland acquired indices to almost 17,000 Jewish birth, marriage and death records for the City of Warszawa from 1869 to 1898. The records were indexed by the staff of the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation Genealogy Project at the Jewish Historical Institute, from registers in the Warszawa Region Branch. This phase has been fully funded.
The Joint JRI-Poland/Ronald S. Lauder Foundation Genealogy Project continued with the addition of additional 11,000 Jewish Birth, marriage and death records for the City of Warszawa from 1869 to 1899. This phase has been fully funded.
Jewish Records Indexing-Poland acquired index pages for the vital registers for those records not indexed under Phase 1 and 2. The JRI-Poland staff in Warszawa indexed these records and then we utilized a dedicated staff member to review the indices, identify and correct errata and complete brides names for those marriage indices which only contained groom’s names. This phase completed birth, marriage and death records from 1864 to 1904 and added an additional 37,000 records to the JRI-Poland database. This phase has been fully funded.
With the renewal of the Jewish Records Indexing-Poland/Polish State Archives Agreement, the indexing at the Warszawa Archive is able to begin. This phase will cover the indexing from the vital registers from 1905-1913 as well as a review of the work that has previously been done to see if any additional registers were missed.
Warszawa was separated into various districts or Cyrkuli. There were separate register books for each Cyrkuli. It is important to know where your family lived and if the registered survived for their districts. For more information and links to district maps please click here.
Listed in the chart below is the districts and years that have been indexed by the JRI-Poland team, as well as which indices are searchable in the JRI-Poland database.
